Welcome Messages

I would like to welcome all students, staff, and parents to another school year at Lennox Elementary and LWC Intermediate.  I hope you find Lennox as a District that strives on safety, building positive relationships, and excellence.

We have added some new staff this year.  Three of our new staff are pursuing a master's degree through the University of South Dakota (Go Yotes!) and their Induction and Mentoring (IAM) program.  Marissa Swanz (JK), Kyla Karst (Kindergarten), and Kayla Havrevold (6th grade Science and Health) will be mentored by Karen Bartscher this year.  Mrs. Bartscher will be out of the classroom as she works with the new staff in the IAM program.  Steve Hale will be the new teacher in 6th grade Math.  Mr. Hale has 10 years of teaching experience in the 5th and 6th grade and is an assistant football coach with the Orioles.  Finally, Louise Perrion (6-12 vocal) and Ellie Kenkel (6-8 band) round out our new hires.

We will have a few new curriculum and program additions this school year.  In grades K-6, we will utilize Exact Path.  Exact Path is a individualized computer program that pushes students in content areas they excel in, and help in weak areas according to the NWEA formative assessment we give three times a year.  Mrs. Bartscher and I will be assisting teachers on how to effectively utilize the program for student growth.

2nd grade will be implementing Walk to Read.  This philosophy meets students where they are in their reading. Staff will be able to hone in on strengths and weaknesses for student growth.  Students will be moving from classroom to classroom each day in 2nd grade depending on their needs.

Finally, in the Intermediate, Science and Health teachers will be incorporating Growth Mindset and Genius Hour into their teaching.  This will take place primarily on Fridays.  Growth Mindset is believing in achieving, even when we think things are too hard or impossible.  Genius Hour is researching, creating, and problem solving in the areas of our interests.
