WHAT IS TITLE I?

Title I is a federally funded program established in 1965 under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. As defined by the U.S. Department of Education (2004), “The purpose of this title is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging State academic achievement standards and State academic assessments.” Funding is distributed based on the following criteria:

  • A data census;
  • Number of students eligible for free and reduced lunch;
  • Number of children in families receiving assistance under SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program);
  • TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families); or
  • Medicaid

IMPLEMENTING TITLE I SERVICES:

The Lennox School District will comply with federal laws, regulations, and non-regulatory guidance that govern the administration of state and federal programs. With these laws and regulations, the Lennox School District will make decisions about how to serve the needs of the local populations.

How does my child qualify for Title I?
  • NWEA reading results; spring and fall
  • Informal reading assessments
  • Standard Based Report Card; Reading Grade (Level 1 and/or Level 2)
  • Teacher recommendations
How will I know my child qualifies for Title I?

A School-Student-Parent Compact will be sent home to inform you that your child qualifies for Title I within the first two weeks of school. You will need to sign the form and return it to the school.

When will my child receive services?

A time will be scheduled that best fits your child and does not take away from specials or instructional time in the classroom.  The students selected will receive small group supplemental reading instruction for approximately 25-30 minutes 4-5 days a week.

How will I know how my child is making progress?
  • State Standards/Goals that have been worked on will be sent home quarterly
  • Times can be set-up to meet with Title I teachers during conferences or other designated times set-up by you and the Title I teacher.

What is my role in helping my child?

As a parent, I, will support my child’s learning in the following ways:

  • Establish routines at home: appropriate bedtime, homework, grooming/hygiene, nutrition
  • Let the teacher know if there are concerns with my child’s learning abilities.
  • Value and support my child’s attendance at school; see that my child attends school regularly and on time.
  • Promote positive use of my child’s extracurricular time to ensure that homework gets completed.
  • Assist my child with academic needs; participate in learning activities at home such as reading with my child          daily, and playing math games.
  • Participate when possible in Title I family meetings and other activities designed to enrich my child’s                     educational experiences and support my child’s academic success.
  • Support education so my child sees the value of academics to pursue his/ her interests and goals for                     future success.
  • Stay informed about my child’s education and communicate with the school; volunteer in the classroom.
